{"id":8323,"date":"2017-11-08T14:21:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T14:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jewishpublicaffairs.org\/?p=8323"},"modified":"2022-05-24T14:32:10","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T14:32:10","slug":"55-jewish-groups-urge-congress-not-to-weaken-johnson-amendment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jewishpublicaffairs.org\/news\/55-jewish-groups-urge-congress-not-to-weaken-johnson-amendment\/","title":{"rendered":"55 Jewish Groups Urge Congress not to Weaken Johnson Amendment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA), and 53 other Jewish nonprofits, charitable organizations, and religious institutions <a href=\"https:\/\/jewishpublicaffairs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2015\/09\/Johnson-Amendment-Letter.pdf\">sent a letter<\/a> urging Congress to reject efforts to weaken or repeal the Johnson Amendment, the existing law the prohibits tax-exempt nonprofits from endorsing or opposing candidates for public office.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cAs religious and charitable nonprofits, our mission, first and foremost, is to do good works and serve our communities. Public trust in our integrity and commitment to that mission is paramount.
