The Jewish Council for Public Affairs is mourning with the Minneapolis, Minnesota community today as we sit in shock from the killing of Renee Nicole Good<\/a> by an ICE agent yesterday. In response to this tragedy, Amy Spitalnick, CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, shared the following statement:<\/span><\/p>\n

“JCPA mourns the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent yesterday in Minneapolis. Emerging evidence, including video footage, raises serious questions about whether deadly force was warranted against a community member who appears to have been observing immigration arrests. We stand with the entire Minneapolis community today in mourning the loss of Ms. Good and pray for her family, and reiterate the need for a full, transparent investigation of this incident that includes local, state, and federal law enforcement entities.<\/p>\n

This killing reflects the dangerous militarization of immigration enforcement spreading across the country. The deployment of aggressive federal tactics in residential areas threatens public safety and undermines the democratic relationship between government and its citizens. Compounding this crisis is the racist and dehumanizing language directed at immigrant and minority communities by government officials \u2014 rhetoric that fuels violence and violates core principles of equal protection and human dignity.<\/p>\n

Our Jewish values call us to protect the vulnerable, welcome the stranger, and demand justice. JCPA stands with faith and civil rights partners who are documenting what is occurring in their neighborhoods, and we call on the Trump administration to end this escalation of militarized immigration enforcement. Instead, this administration, Congress, and civil rights partners must all come together to pursue meaningful legislative solutions to fix our immigration system and build a stronger, more inclusive democracy in which all our communities are safe.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
