In response to the Department of Homeland Security finally releasing the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the FY2025 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) \u2014 two months after it was legally required to be released \u2014 Amy Spitalnick<\/a>, CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs<\/a>, released the following statement:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cAt a time when the threat of antisemitism and broader hate-based violence is on the rise, nonprofit security grants are vital to the safety of Jewish communities and so many others. But despite Congress approving this funding in March, the Administration failed to release the Notice of Funding Opportunities on time in May, as required by law. In addition to the freeze on NSGP funding earlier this year, this has cost Jewish and other communities precious time at a dire moment for our security. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why I raised this concern directly to the House Homeland Security Committee at a roundtable last week, and joined with others to call on DHS<\/a> to finally invite organizations to apply for available grants under the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) \u2013 which provides critical funding support for physical security enhancements, trainings, and other measures to protect vulnerable nonprofits, including houses of worship. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAcross the country, our institutions need robust resources to ensure that we have the tools we need to keep our communities safe in the face of a wide range of serious and evolving threats. The funding allocated by Congress through the NGSP has a critical role to play in that process, and we\u2019re glad that after an intensive advocacy push, our communities will finally have the opportunity to apply for these funds. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe also cannot simply barricade or prosecute our way out of this crisis of violent hate \u2014 and measures like this must go hand-in-hand with the broader policies aimed at building resiliency to hate and extremism in the first place.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
