Today, the House of Representatives agreed to pass the Senate\u2019s reconciliation bill, which will now go to President Trump for signature. <\/span><\/i>Amy Spitalnick<\/span><\/i><\/a>, CEO of the <\/span><\/i>Jewish Council for Public Affairs<\/span><\/i><\/a>, released the following statement:\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cDemocracy is strongest when we protect the vulnerable and uphold human rights. This morally bankrupt bill does the opposite.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bill trades compassion for cruelty. It strips nutrition assistance, healthcare, and housing support from millions of Americans \u2013 particularly harming children, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans. At the same time, it pours billions of dollars into mass-detention and draconian anti-immigrant policies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bill reflects a vision of this country rooted in fear, xenophobia, and prejudice, rather than justice, dignity, and compassion. It seeks to lead us down a dangerous road in which more and more Americans have to struggle just to make ends meet, and to remain safe from government intimidation, detention and deportation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We do not and cannot accept this vision for America. Our Jewish values demand that we continue to fight for a more just, inclusive country in which all communities are welcome, and in which all people can thrive.”<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
